OK so I have just got Vegas 7(for free)
 My concern is that after entering the serial number I have to give in personal details such as name and adress. Will these details be used against me if they find out that I did not pay for it. Sam goes with cs2

You are supposed to do it offline, that way it cant connect to the internet and send your details to them.
Also, when you have done that. Do not download any updates, as it will block your software from being used. Instead, I think you should crack it. That way you dont need to generate keys and such.
