I have played around with a friend's iPod touch, and it works great from what I hear.
Have you checked out the new iPod Nano's though? An 8G is only $150, and a 16G is $200.
Go to apple.com if you haven't.

Get one, NOW!
They're really good, I have one, had it a while now, nothing has went wrong with it except when i was hacking it, but even then all i had to do was reinstall the firmware on to it and it worked fine again. I definitly reccomend getting one. And if you are going to get one get the new one that was released today as it now has a built in speaker and some more new things that the first gen iPod Touch does not have.
