i know many people here have the dazzle dvc 170 (shown below)
i said i was going to make a tut and i finally got around to it
lets get started.
Step #1 - Capturing
with this capture card you capture using a program called studio, this is the only program that you can capture with this card.
open studio and click on the tab named "capture"
then click the setup tab at the top and click where it says "capture source"
fill in the following settings.
capture source:
capture format:
project preferences:
video and audio preferences:
then click ok.
you will now need to fill in these settings on the video tab at the bottom.
*make sure to click the custom sets buttom under where it says mpeg capture (the button with the bar, not with the dots.) also put if your using s-video cables or composite cables.
then you are ready to capture! push the "start capture" button (the green one)
this box will appear and all you will need to do is name the clip and push "start capture"
once you have captured your clip, click the "edit" tab.
your clip will be right there and all you need to do is drag it onto the track at the bottom.
like so.
then click "make a movie" tab.
make sure the file type is avi and that the preset is custom. then click the "settings" button and change the setting to this:
then click ok. and then the green "create file" button.
once your video is saved, done with studio.
Step #2 - Using Virtual Dub and MSU Field Shifter
MSU field shifter is a filter used in virtual dub that deinterlaces your clip, retains color, and gets rid of motion blur. Using this will improve your quality GREATLY!
i could write this part up, but i think it would be easier for you to learn from this tutorial.

this MSU Field Shifter tut was made by Ryu Hitokiri at h3f.
once you have made the script open virtual dub. click file, open, and open the script you made for your clip.
then click the "video" tab and click on filters. add the filters shown below.
HSV adjust - make the saturation 125% and leave the rest alone.
Deinterlace
Sharpen - make it by 30.
then click ok.
click the file tab at the top and go to "save as avi"
once you have done that a progress box will come up that looks like this.
once the clip is saved your done with virtual dub.
Step #3 - Compressing the clip
once you take the clip out of studio and virtual dub the file size is going to be way too big. in this step you will make your clip into a reasonable size.
you will need a program to compress the clip with. i would suggest using xilisoft, however windows media encoder works well too.
open xilisoft and click the "add" button and find your clip.
highlight the video and select Windows Media Video (WMV) at the bottom where it says "profiles"
also select where you want your clip to be saved where it says "destination" at the bottom.
highlight the video and change the settings (located in the box on the far right) to these:
once you have done that click the "encode" button. a registration message will come up but just click "later" and your video will encode.
once the video has been compressed your done!
